YBM의 TOEIC® Speaking and Writing Tests 시행 10주년을 축하합니다.

2006년 12월, 한국에서 TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests가 첫 시행되었다. 인터넷 기반의 시험으로 출발하여 컴퓨터 기반 시험으로 활용되기까지, TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests는 다양한 변화를 겪어왔다. 시행 10주년을 기념하여 ETS TOEIC Program Executive Director인 Feng Yu가 글을 보내왔다.

2006년 12월 ETS에서는 TOEIC 상품의 다변화를 위하여 TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests를 출시했습니다. TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests는 TOEIC Listening and Reading test와 함께 국경과 문화를 초월하여 신뢰할만한 글로벌 인재의 영어 의사소통 능력을 효과적으로 평가하는 데 활용되어 왔습니다. 그로부터 10년이 지난 지금, TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests는 전 세계 76개 국가에서 시행되고 있습니다.
First launched in December 2006, the TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests were developed by ETS to bolster the TOEIC assessment family. Combined with TOEIC Listening and Reading test, the TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests provide the global workforce with a reliable measure of communicative English skills needed to work effectively across borders and cultures. Now 10 years later, through ETS’s strong relationship with YBM and partners across the globe, the TOEIC S&W tests have been administered in 76 countries worldwide.
TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests는 직원 채용, 훈련, 승진 등 글로벌 기업의 효과적인 인사관리를 위한 실용적이고 현실적인 영어능력 평가 도구로 활용되어 왔습니다. ETS의 TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests 출시는 TOEIC Listening and Reading test와 함께 영어의 4대영역을 평가하는 중요한 전환점이 되었습니다.
The TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests have allowed multinational companies to build a more effective workforce by providing a measure for functional and practical English skills required to hire, train and promote the most qualified candidates.Together with the TOEIC Listening and Reading test, the launch of the TOEIC S&W tests marked a significant milestone by ETS in the promotion of all four English language skills.
ETS에서는 TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests가 한국 영어학습자들의 영어 말하기 능력을 향상하는데 성공적으로 일조한 것에 대한 자부심을 느끼고 있습니다. 10년 전 한국에서 TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests를 처음 출시한 이후 한국의 누적 응시인원은 210만 명을 넘어섰습니다. 이는 ETS와 YBM이 한국 영어학습자의 영어 능력이 꾸준히 성장할 수 있도록 노력하고 헌신한 결과입니다.
ETS takes pride in the success of the TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests and the key role the assessments have played in the development and improvement of English-language speakers in Korea. Since the first administration 10 years ago, the cumulative number of Korean test takers has surpassed 2.1 million. The achievements of the TOEIC Speaking and Writing tests in Korea are a testament to the dedication of YBM and ETS to the continued growth of English language proficiency for all Koreans.
현대중공업, LG전자, 두산, 삼성과 같은 한국의 대기업에서는 글로벌 시장에 집중하며 TOEIC L&R과 TOEIC S&W를 활용해 직원들의 언어능력을 교육, 평가하고 있습니다. 그리고 통계에 따르면 말하기 능력을 포함한 한국인의 평균 영어능력이 타 아시아 국가에 비해 우수한 것으로 확인되었습니다.
Prominent Korean companies that focus on the international market such as Hyundai Heavy Industries, LG Electronics, Doosan and Samsung, all rely on both the TOEIC L&R and TOEIC S&W tests to assess and train their employees. And over the years, statistics have shown that the average English proficiency, including speaking skills, is higher in Korea compared to other Asian countries.
지난 10년간의 성과는 한국인의 영어능력과 글로벌 경쟁력 향상에 대한 YBM과 ETS의 노력과 헌신을 잘 보여주고 있습니다. 앞으로도 ETS에서는 YBM과 함께 한국 TOEIC 프로그램의 지속적인 성공과 증진을 위해 최선을 다할 것입니다.
